Above: four youth from the Diocese of Delaware traveled to Wilkes Barre, PA to participate in the Diocese of Bethlehem's Happening #18 in November, 2008. Delaware could not have been better represented geographically: we had youth from St., Peter's (Lewes), Christ Church (Dover), St. Thomas's (Newark), Trinity (Wilmington) along with adult Lynne Turner from Christ Church (Christiana Hundred). The theme was What's Happening on the Big Screen. Happening is a spiritual retreat presented by teenagers for teenagers, with the help of thoughtful adults. The weekend provides a sacred, safe space where youth may deepen their relationship with Jesus, or to meet him for the first time. A wonderful prelude to confirmation. Happening is the chance for youth to build a foundation for their own unique lives of faith. All of this happens through lively worship, daily prayer, shared insights, music and the arts, indoor and outdoor games, and a few great surprises. Happening encourages youth to go out into the world to love and proclaim what they have learned and to participate fully in the life of their home parishes. Once a team has been to a Happening, they can bring a Happening to their own Diocese. The team is all ready working on having a Happening here in Delaware in Fall of 2009!

Delaware's own Ian Miller from St. Peter's in Lewes was on the design team. Our delegation gathered with 850 other youth and 300 adults from all over the world to worship, play, learn and get to know each other. Look for an article about the trip in an upcoming addition of the Communion.

Human Peace Sign, 30-Hour Famine — On February 22-23, Youth at Trinity Parish, Church of the Ascension and St. Thomas's Parish participated in a 30-Hour Famine at Trinity Parish. World Vision sponsors this program to raise money to ease world hunger and to increase awareness. The youth fasted for 30 hours and participated in activities, worship and service around changing the world. They broke their fast with Eucharist followed by a simple supper.
